I'm afraid I must say it really does no one a service when we let our prejudices get the better of us. There is enough bad news, without manufacturing more. A person who is feeding on his own disgust fools no one.
Let us stick with readily-known facts, and set aside the venomous rumors. The US administration is pointedly not calling for a cease-fire; why ?

I wish that I was wrong about the current situation.
Sadly, I am not in the habit of dealing in rumour. I am not going to link to information on the subject - it is extraordinarily distressing to read about and see the photos.
The only speculation is why Bush refuses to call for a ceasefire.
It was reported in London that Israel had issued an Ultimatum against Syria which runs out soon - and an unnamed IDF officer later said it didn't.
I have nothing further to say on the subject. Opinions no longer matter.

On the rush Limbaugh show a few minutes ago, a certain Lebanese American made some interesting points on how Lebanese do not want the Hezbollah or any other foreign force in Lebanon, but their government is overwhelmed by these Iranian and Syrian proxy influences. Nejad, I think her name was, well spoken, interesting comments and sadness on the loss of her country as a result of the Hezbollah/Israeli fighting.
It was added by Rush (not my everyday hero, but worth the listen sometimes) that some Israeli general mentioned that the Weapons of Mass Destruction supplies that Iraq allegedly had, which were never found, which probably were sourced by YOU-KNOW-WHO, may have made their way to Syrian and Lebanese frontier areas for storage prior to the Iraqi incursion, and this is one of the fears that military persons in that region, and in the United States have.
Is this another round of fear mongering propaganda? Or could it be fact?
Challenging the Israeli military to a fighting campaign is suicide, unless you have the ace of spades, the death card, or Jokers, up your sleeve.
Example: Small Pox spread over Haifa? I am guessing here.
It is a horrible scenario, I don't have answers, I don't even have good questions, but this I do know: 100 years of peace and diplomacy can be erased with 30 seconds of bombing, and I hate it with all my heart. _________________ Ed Ziomek |

"fact" ?
even the Israeli press jeered at Sharon when he came up with the rubbish that Saddam's missing WMD must be in Syria ages ago.
You see the Fox News four part series on Israeli spying on the US? If you are interested in 911, it makes curious viewing.
In case nobody told you, the latest Lebanese area to be attacked by Israel is Christian.
What it takes to stand up to the Israeli (or US) military is courage.

You are not wrong, but nobody is right anymore.
Why would a minor force challenge an overwhelming force?
Hezbollah's Hassan Nasrallah is promising a "surprise" for the Israeli military and the Israeli citizens.
http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3276791,00.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hassan_Nasrallah
Could it be contaminating the Israeli water supply? Could it be biological?
You correctly say..."What it takes to stand up to the Israeli (or US) military is courage." I say, "Sure, big courage, and add a truckload of stupidity in there too."
From ancient history, I know these two brother-cultures to be brilliant, devious under pressure, survivalists at all costs, the worst kind of confrontationalist. Nothing is off the table.
And the ant-size force is challenging the lion.
Why?
What does the ant know that we don't? Much, obviously!
PS, your earlier quotes of 6 months ago are coming true, about Iran or Syria being bombed by the US military, or Israeli military...well, the pretexts are being constructed as we speak. Nothing is ridiculous anymore. Insanity rules. _________________ Ed Ziomek |

Over many, many, many years the US military held the same military exercise - every year.
The latest, best fighter (and let's be fair - in America that means one powerful piece of kit) was pitched against a group of the cheapest planes.
The cheap ones were made of a form of marine-ply, like some WWII fighters. Not fast. Not too hot to handle. Only basically armed. The same thing happened year in and year out. The big plane defeated the cheap ones. Maybe two of them, maybe half a dozen, mabye even a couple more. But always, every year, the cheap planes eventually defeated the big one. Always.
Ants can kill an elephant - it is a known natural fact.
Courage and stupidity ? If people who have had their children slaughtered by the US/UK military in Iraq or the Israelis in Gaza or Lebanon decide to fight back, then it is not up to us to consider them stupid.
Sure Nazrallah threatens something "secret", of course he does, but do not assume he will use the same chemical/WMD weapons that America and Israel are currently using. You may consider them terrorists, but at least they are not barbarians. We are the barbarians now.
Who can solve this ? Certainly not Bush (unless he has some amazing secret), nor his puppet-on-a-string Blair, and not the near-hysterical Israelis. The only people who are capable of solving this are the Osmanli - the Ottomans. They are wise, patient and cruel beyond anything we know - and they understand the Middle East.
Unfortunately America and Israel has screwed up so badly in their interference in northern Iraq that a heavily armed force of close to a third of a million are due to invade very, very soon: the Turkish Army.
For Israel to have attacked the Lebanese, blatantly instead of fighting Hizbollah, may have been a far bigger mistake than they know. They had wanted the Syrian and Iranian war as cover - since they didn't get it, as you say: anything is possible.
Apparently it was a beautiful summer: 1914. _________________ Richard Haut has worked with the architectural profession for over 25 years and produces the weekly Richard Haut's Competitions, which has given architects details of many thousands of projects for which they can apply across Britain and Europe. |

Isn't it wonderful that Condy Rice is brokering a cease fire...hey wait...what is this story of US weapons passing through the UK without formal notice?
Eeegads!...brokering peace, begging for a cease fire, praying to God, and passing the ammo! Winning hearts and minds?
Fools everyone, all the time, we are led to believe?!

ain't that the truth.
I was going to link to Robert Fisk's article about the girl hit by (illegal) Israeli cluster bombs. Why bother? Kids who are dead, maimed, dying. Blocking humanitarian aid.
Rice is going to demand the handover of Lebanese territory to thieving Israel - nothing else.
Yes, for the first time the Brits are getting really angry.
Where will it lead ? To war, just to war. _________________ Richard Haut has worked with the architectural profession for over 25 years and produces the weekly Richard Haut's Competitions, which has given architects details of many thousands of projects for which they can apply across Britain and Europe. |

When the schoolyard bully has the backing of the "principal" -- what else could you expect ?
Imperial colonialism has taken many forms over the centuries, and the effect has always been to take something away from the locals. _________________ "I'm the commander . . . see, I do not need to explain why I say things. and so the lies continue .......
after yesterday's shameful attack on Qana, the Israelis announced a 48 hour cessation of air strikes. Despite this, it is reported that the air attacks continued this morning. (http://www.guardian.co.uk/israel/Story/0,,1834225,00.html)
it would appear that the fake cessation of attacks was a snub to Condi Rice.
Trying to see what is really happening is very difficult, but this is a reasoned view by the very senior British politician Gerald Kaufman who also happens to be Jewish:
| Quote: | Reaping the whirlwind
Israel's current adventure is a disaster not only for the Lebanese, being slaughtered in increasing numbers, but also for Israel and the United States.
Gerald Kaufman
July 31, 2006 09:03 AM | Printable version
Israel's current adventure has turned out to be a disaster not only for the Lebanese, being slaughtered in increasing numbers by Israeli attacks, but for Israel itself and its sponsor, the United States. Three weeks after their invasion, the Israelis have accomplished none of their objectives. The two soldiers whose kidnapping was the casus belli remain in Hezbollah hands - just as Corporal Galid Shalit is still a prisoner of Palestinian insurgents in the Gaza strip.
None of the Israelis' military objectives has been achieved, or shows any sign whatever of being achieved. The Hizbullah infrastructure remains intact and has inflicted heavy casualties on Israeli forces. Hizbullah rockets continue to pour down on Israel, with the entire northern half of the country unprecedentedly a vulnerable target.
The Israelis are calling up thousands of reservists and saying their forces will be in Lebanon for weeks more. It is impossible to see how these additional men or this additional time will improve this situation for the Israelis, or for the Americans - the only two countries who have seemed to believe that the running sore of Hizbullah can be cauterised by a short, sharp shock.
Moreover, they appear to have believed that, under cover of anticipated military success in Lebanon, Israel could put a stop to what it regards as the Palestinian threat in Gaza. True, the Israelis have killed many Palestinians in Gaza; but there is no sign whatever that this problem has been solved, either.
Taking into account that previous Israeli incursions into Lebanon were total failures, with no objectives attained and many Israeli servicemen killed, and taking into account, too, that the Americans suffered 241 servicemen killed in Beirut at the hands of Hizbullah, it is difficult to understand how even ultimate buffoons like Ehud Olmert and George Bush could have expected anything else.
Furthermore, in the whole history of the state of Israel, this is the first time that that country, in all its wars, has been subject to almost unanimous condemnation, worldwide. Not only has Olmert failed abjectly to protect his country. He has turned it into an international pariah.
Now it is reported that Condoleezza Rice, Bush's obedient but ineffectual catspaw, has called off her latest, planned trip to Beirut on the basis that there is no sign of what she regards as the necessary condition for a cease-fire - the protection of Israel. The rest of us, watching heart-rending scenes of death and devastation in Lebanon, want an urgent cease-fire to protect Lebanese civilians. The United States secretary of state sees Israel as the vulnerable party, which is ironic taking into account that the Israelis and the Americans insanely saw this operation as one which would end Israeli vulnerability once and for all.
It is ironic, too, that United Nations headquarters in Beirut has been subject to attack by Lebanese, when Koffi Annan, however impotent, does understand the nature of the situation and wants to cure it - not surprisingly, since his own personnel has been subject to murderous Israeli assault.
Of course, a ceasefire is needed, on both sides. But it is folly to believe that this whole cauldron of death and hatred will stop bubbling until there are genuine negotiations to solve the Israel-Palestine issue. And it is no use the Israelis and Americans insisting that they cannot negotiate with the Hamas government.
Whatever one's opinion of Hamas, it was elected in precisely the kind of valid democratic contest the Americans say they want throughout the Middle East - provided, of course, that the result is to the liking of the White House. That wise Israeli statesman Abba Eban once said to me: "If you want to end a war, whom else do you negotiate with except your enemy?"
The Bible says: "They have sown the wind and shall reap the whirlwind." I feel deeply sorry for the families of killed Israelis, just as I feel deeply sorry for the families of killed Lebanese and Palestinians. But when the Israeli electorate decided, in its folly, to elect Olmert, they voted to reap the whirlwind.

That's good.
Maybe -- just maybe -- the time is at hand for all to see the folly of man. Could it be that the gods are tired of the game, and will permit their foolish progeny to see at last what it is they are doing ? Is the almost unbelievable venality and vanity on all sides finally to be made plain, in its extremity ? |

Folly of Man, or Nature of Man?
Maybe the libido-psycho makeup of man is mucho-macho WAR!
The Hezbollah rockets, 100 per day, just as easily could have killed those 65 Israelis or Qana Lebanese, and our disgust would be the same. All sides are guilty. America is also guilty. Iran is also guilty, but at the end of the day...I ask, guilty of being human?
Past is prologue. 10,000 years of brother versus brother, behind us, and in front of us too. Look at the Koreas...shooting at each other yesterday! Why?
Libido Mandate?
And as you know, it is almost universally male versus male. I think it is deep within the male psyche, the phallic-sword libido aggression, to attack, to dominate, to possess more, to procreate more, to devastate more. If no wars exist, I think the male psyche will invent it. Where are the women politicians to balance out all the male testosterone aggressiveness?
I am studying the Aztecs, and the ancient connections with the Greeks/Egyptians. Tenochtitlan, island of the ancient Valley of Mexico, I believe is named after the Greek Goddess of Night (Nyx) in the Underworld, and she separated her ancient island into the four-most-important parts...
Love/Life...Cuepopan... Cupid, daughter of Nyx
Hate/Death...Zoquilpan...Ker/Qerr, son of Nyx...Soker (Egyptian), Tonatiu (Aztec), Thonatos (Greek)
Mother Earth/Birth...Atzacoalco...Isis Womb (chalice of creation, the cauldron of creation, the Holy Grail?)
Heaven/Star-Rebirth...Moyotla...aka Maia, daughter of Atlas, brightest star in the Plaedes, the circumpolar Stars, the Stars that never move
According to legend, each of these four elements is in all of us...Good and Bad.
All of history is Intermittent Harmony, followed by Intermittent Chaos
None of us can escape ourselves. So what do we do with it? Destroy each other, or "cope" with each other? The world has always chosen both, at various times. Yin and Yang, the Pendelum swings.
Each aspect has its own season, and will never end. _________________ Ed Ziomek |
