It must be embarrassing for the most conservative republicans to finally realize that their party is even more big government socialist than the democrats.

For years they told their party leaders to cut all these stupid wasteful programs, excess government involvement and move power back to the states and cities and out of Washington. (basically to become more libertarian)

What did they get? Double the deficit, excessive use of our military, bigger government, consolidation of national political power, etc..

When are you republicans finally going to give up and start putting libertarians in office instead of the me first politicians?

Thank God for a little controversy all of a sudden.

And who the HELL ARE YOU CALLING A REPUBLICAN? (just kidding Very Happy )

Here is the dillemmi... Republicans VOTE! Tree hugging crybaby libertarians like myself become slackers around vote time, and let the rabid fanatic Republicans rip out someone's gizzard in order to cast their ballot!

Polls? Do they ask the question..."Who do you love?" Answer..."I like this guy, I like that guy"... forget it, they don't show up! Am I right or wrong?

Republicans show up, and stuff their vote down your throat! That is what makes them so powerful, and can you blame them for their success? I despise the results but I admire their success! They have lousy programs, we have seen it, but they stick together (kinda sorta lately, I know) like GLUE!

I hate to say it, but we Democrats seem to be all over the map...

This election will be won by whichever group shows up most, we hope, and typically it is not libertarians and lefties, but it will most certainly be proud Democrats and Republicans. Is it enough? I am afraid not yet enough!

... and now, your turn. Great thread!

Both the republican and democratic parties try for the middle of the road and in reality this causes there to be very little difference between them other than rhetoric.

I think the republicans have been successful not because they are better at getting out the vote but because they where more in tune with Americans conservative attitudes.

Republican economic theory was that somehow if you cut taxes and stimulate the economy with a lot of government spending we could buy ourselves into prosperity.

I saw Greenspan on the news yesterday. He said he made a mistake thinking that big financial institutions would make good decisions because it was in their best interest.

What he did not take into account is that the people running these institutions are so rich and the rewards are so great that they can afford to gamble any amount of money. They have it made regardless of the outcome. For them it is just a game of who can become the biggest multi-billionaire.

McCain said that Obama is a socialist, I will argue that McCain is a practicing socialist, "Spread the welth around", he found a rich wife so, defacto spreaded her welth around to benefit his own pocketst.

One thing is to be asocialist as Hugo Chavez in Venezuela, another thing is to be "social responsible" as Bill Gates and Bill Clinton via their charitable foundations, both spead the welth arond gracefully and with great success, Gates and Clinton voluntarely, Chavez by manipulating the politics in favor of his own ideas, the same as G W Bush did to benefit the fat cats he owed money and favors from all his failures as businessman.

Ted Nugett just said that Obama is socialist too. He likes Sarah Palin.

I like her too.

Palin for President? Obama gets four years of her studing his every move. Pick and dig into every potential weakness. This will come as experience to many men, who knows best to smile and nod.

Ted is way out there so I don't think that is an endorsement that Palin would want.

As soon as this mess is over Palin will be forgotten. The question is where does the republican party go from here?

The Motor City Madman is no Rage Against the Machine. He can talk rational and I digress.

Obama the fiscal conservative? He finally said what I wanted hear. You can count on my vote Barrack.

Republicans can take note.

Don't worry McCain has a tax plan to help you out.

Under the new capitalism plan all people making over 250k will pay no tax (so that they will be free to create more jobs) and the other 95% of Americans (you know the people who control 35% of the wealth) will pay 100% of the taxes.

I tell you DJ we are all going to become millionaires competing over who gets to kiss rich people spam.

Sorry but someone has to pay those taxes. Surely you don't expect wealthy people to pay them? They need that money to create jobs.
