As to how the iPhone downloads, I'd agree. It does appear to be a network, bandwidth, MobileMe -- whatever type of problem. Seems to be a fair amount of articles on the net talking about this.
But according to the reviews at App Store / Productivity / iTracer --- iTracer appears to render fairly fast --- 10 seconds or so.
Of course this is the first entry into CAD on the iPhone, and it is certainly limited. But it does seem like a half decent first effort. And I can't complain of even the most basic of CAD / Modeling programs costing $4.
Though I'm not near as interested in a 3D modeler with rendering for the iPhone, as I am in a 2D CAD app with numeric input, use of multi-touch for zooming, scrolling -- that type thing. I just can't see, even an iPhone app that is written fairly well, taking that much time to display some precision line art.
Save the gradients, shadows, and what not. Just give me a way of doing some basic precision line / parallel line input, arcs, convert poly line to tangent smooth line command (easy way to do bezier or smooth curves). A way to place doors / windows and other assorted symbols --- plan view stuff --- basic elevations or sections --- a way to draw at a specified angle --- leader & text.
Another nice feature would be to use the iPhone's camera to take a picture of an existing elevation, for instance, and then be able to draw in dimensions over the top ----- being able to remove carats? in dimension edit window, when inserting dimension over an out of scale picture.
