it is reported that Israel issued an Ultimatum against Syria today (Saturday) giving it 72 hours to stop Hezbollah.
Since Syria was forced out of Lebanon, the Ultimatum's terms are meaningless because Syria could only act at one removed.
According to Russian Foreign Minister Ivanov the war has already started.
Israel calculatedly set up the current situation and has now pushed itself and others into war. Even if Syria were to comply, the situation is likely to mirror the Austrian Ultimatum to the Serbs in 1914 - comply and the terms will be changed until they cannot comply.
The only unknown is whether or not America will join Israel in widening the Middle East conflict. Syria has a mutual defence treaty with Iran.
Without America, the war would be regional. With America it becomes global immediately.
The war would be so pointless and destructive for America (the Gulf States are likely to be destroyed almost immediately) that it is to be hoped that Bush and the gang have suckered Israel into a trap. _________________ Richard Haut has worked with the architectural profession for over 25 years and produces the weekly Richard Haut's Competitions, which has given architects details of many thousands of projects for which they can apply across Britain and Europe. |
