Rich, numbers are funny in that who is to know if the numbers are high or low or accurate?

Since your sources are amazingly different from the stateside sources, what are you hearing about the numbers of civilian deaths and wounded and refugees, in Afghanistan and Iraq?

PS...on another note, it is reported Junior George Bush is on a last minute push to repair and polish up his image! (choke and gag)

In my sincerest opinion of tragic, ironic justice for massive personal sacrifices, I think he might schedule a sit-down with American Gold Star mothers as a starter to explain one question... "Why?"

Ed

I agree that casualty figures are confusing, but this is not the first time that I have seen such high US casualty figures being referred to by Veterans' Associations. They have every reason to want to find the most accurate figures.

I have no idea about Afghan numbers, but in Iraq I couldn't keep up with the estimates after a million dead (one estimate, today, is 1,168,058 (from http://www.justforeignpolicy.org/iraq/iraqdeaths.html)). Some estimate it to be higher. The number of refugees is enormous.

Bush's visit to the Middle East was very strange. Yes, he visited various Arab countries. Yes, he tried to set up some large arms deals, but the one definite thing that he did was to tell Israel, in clear terms, what he demanded. He was of course sneered at immediately, but he said his piece clearly: stop building settlements, return to the border from the 1960's, and pay reparations to Palestinians who cannot now return.

I can understand Blair, even the ghastly Sarkozy, but Bush is a baffling figure. He was put in power for a reason - and it was not only to rescue Halliburton from the Drexler claims. He has a real and serious agenda, and I would be fascinated to find out what it really is. I have a sneaking feeling that history may treat him more kindly than you or I would believe.
