Green Wednesday, by the editors of ArchitectureWeek, brings you weekly green design and building news from around the world.
This week sees massive coverage of green in the New York Times, and again Al Gore weighs in significantly:
"The central challenge," [Gore said to the Times reporter], "is to expand the limits of what’s now considered politically possible. The outer boundary of what’s considered plausible today still falls far short of the near boundary of what would actually solve the crisis."

For over a decade, straw-bale construction has been
growing in popularity among "alternative" house builders.
The durable, low-cost, nontoxic, highly insulating,
pest-resistant, and potentially structural material is
especially practical in hot arid climates. It was used
extensively in the treeless grasslands of the U.S.
Midwest early in the 20th century.
