each in it's own way with it's own trade offs
concrete, you can reuse it, but it takes allot of energy to make and remake contributing to about a 1/3 of co2.
plastic, that you can recycle and reuse it (EPS is now more recycled than glass or alum.) Dioxin is not so nice thou.
wood, when it is from a sustainable harvest, and not treated with toxic preservatives, also it is the most cheap affordable abundant source of fuel for heat. all the non sustainable logging far offsets the managed forests and it is a very mono crop so in a way unhealthy.
can you pick Pumice, Adobe and/or Straw? _________________ The most necessary/useful piece of learning is that which unlearns what is untrue: 'evil'

Pumice-crete is the name http://maxpages.com/pumice/WHAT_IS_PUMICE_CRETE
http://maxpages.com/pumice/WHAT_IS_PUMICE
a form of light weight concrete, also know as one of the the first building material known to man, because the Romans used it after the advent of cement to build the Pantheon and Aqueducts & Athena
do you have lots of old volcanoes or a source for cheap 3/8" rounds crushed pumice stone? if so it would make a excellent material to deal with the need for a mixed mass/insulation wall/floor/roof system. ration 1:20 to 1:11 cerement:pumice
maybe i would put a top mfg'd stone/slab on top of the treads but i believe it would work excellent and be affordable based on the sources and distance. _________________ The most necessary/useful piece of learning is that which unlearns what is untrue: 'evil'
