Here is a current green project:

http://openprototype.com/projects/open2/open2index.html

"Net-Zero Energy Use

To achieve Net-Zero status, Unity house utilizes a solar panel array to capture the sun's energy. In contrast to Photo-Voltaic systems that store their captured energy in stacks of batteries for use on cloudy days, or at night, the PV (Photo-Voltaic) system on Unity House is connected to the public electrical power grid. When the system is producing surplus energy beyond the electrical load requirements of the house, it feeds electricity back to the grid. Then, when no solar power is available, the house can use conventionally generated power off the grid. With its electrical credits offsetting its grid requirements, Unity House achieves Net-Zero energy use. The Public power grid effectively acts like a large battery and buffer to level the spikes of the PV power output. A sophisticated monitoring system is located in a central location to inform the homeowner. Getting real time feedback about power usage helps to improve user behavior.
"

The utility company is not a battery. If all houses produced excess energy there would be no place for that energy to go to. Just like so called sustainable forests this is merely a smoke and mirrors game that only works when a few houses use it.

Any fool can make a net zero house by providing enough PV panels.

This type of accounting system conveniently allows us to use any amount of resources we want.

it is a battery of sorts. you can put your power back in and it does help other people on the grid.
my preference is off-grid, but if you make an excess y not sell it back?

if they are stoned according to Canadian studies they are growing new brain cells.

no wonder they are so smart if your guess is true but i am sorry to tell you as somebody who has done solar all my life that your facts/opinion are/is off.

planting new trees in a sustainable way is neither smoke and mirrors.

i am going to go on a wild tangent here and guess you are a conservative republican neocon ??

LISTEN:

IF EVERY HOUSE TRIES TO SELL BACK ENERGY DURING TIMES WHEN THEY DON'T NEED MUCH ENERGY WHERE DOES THAT ENERGY GO?

(NOWHERE)

YES THIS DOES WORK WHEN A FEW HOUSES DO THIS BUT IT IS NOT A SOLUTION. YES WE CAN POWER OUR HOMES WITH SOLAR ENERGY WHEN IT IS AVAILABLE. THAT DOES NOT MAKE A HOUSE ZERO NET ENERGY AND IT DOESN'T MAKE A COAL PLANT A BATTERY.

AS WITH SUSTAINABLE FORESTS. YES WE CAN SET A FEW FORESTS ASIDE AND CALL THEM "SUSTAINABLE" AND EVEN BUILD HUGE MANSIONS USING THIS "SUSTAINABLE WOOD"

(AS LONG AS 99% OF ALL OTHER WOOD PRODUCTS DON'T COME FROM SUSTAINABLE FORESTS)

IS THERE ANY LIMIT USING THIS ACCOUNTING METHOD?

WOULD I ACTUALLY HAVE TO MODERATE MY CONSUMPTION IN ANY WAY?

HELL, I CAN EVEN MAKE A 20,000 SQ. FT. ENERGY POSITIVE HOUSE. WOULDN'T THAT BE EVEN BETTER?

it is stored in the lines and the transformers. batteries are a DC concept, we are talking AC here.

i would advise you get scientific/professional council before yelling and being negative

if you don't like wood good for you there are plenty of other wall systems you can use

Strata comes to mind ESR-1638

Very Happy

no i have not read anything from you before this post.

you got my curious now. how you feel about intelligent design and the Ben Stein movie?

PS it is required that a licensed professional solar installer put and hook up to the grid the solar panels , calling people fools is not helpful

You don't understand English very well do you?

Any fool can make a net zero house by providing enough PV panels.

This doesn't mean that I am actually building it. I can hire someone to install the panels.

Lines and transformers don't store energy. Lines move energy and transformers convert it from one voltage to another.

I like wood just fine what I don't like is people calling something sustainable when it isn't.

Did you miss the whole discussion we had here on intelligent design?

http://www.designcommunity.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=18507

I see you participated in it. Is your memory that bad?

As for Ben Stein although he is generally a good actor I haven't seen the movie but now that I see what it is about I don't think I will bother.

All I can think is it is just an attempt to make money by controversy.

I've gotta agree, it didn't take many brain cells to stick a couple of PV cells on the roof. Green prototype, I don't think so Rolling Eyes

is there a solar orientation, some sort of master development planning, or is this a one off for this professors home? The fancy wording is there

bad? English? you assume and project that. i again will reject it and clarify to you my stance on such dynamic relative subjects if you need that csintexas, bro

ID is bogus reactionary religious people who are rebelling against evidence, who cares they are entertaining yes but it is a sickness spread by child abuse threw the ages that we would do better to remove our selfs from. we are in the age of Enbrightenment now.

making money on pseudo mythological controversy i agree with you on that.
also i can see what you are saying if everybody is net zero how it would be a problem but we are nowhere near that and when we do get there we will find solutions like intermittent hydrogen battery storage maybe?

The age of Enbrightenment. I like it.

The spiritual unionist stronghold is still on the money and lots of it. "In God We Trust". A money policy based on the God standard, you have to believe the money for it to work.

How 'bout an energy based, monetary policy? Money=Energy.

Get off the Bongs MIT. your too smart for little ideas.

Wow, I can keep "rolling" with this topic. Very Happy

Money=Energy

YOU COULD GROW YOUR OWN!!! Money that is. Everyone could do it.

Are you catching on you brilliant, super smarty pants people at MIT?

Still mad at the "Drunken Robots"??? Turn that thing into a grow room, you'll score some major style points.

Should I apply to MIT?

Derek
