The Office of Fair Trading has named 112 construction companies accused of rigging bids for contracts in Britain.

At long last Britain's "nudge, nudge" is getting some publicity.

Anybody ever wonder why a country with one of the best architectural professions in the world has such nasty townscapes ? - how it is possible for over half of Britain's new school buildings to be described as "poorly designed" ?

The OFT Press Release and the list of the named companies are here:

Apart from Balfour Beatty, I don't (surprisingly) see any large, well known firms on the list. I agree this (amongst many other day-to-day examples) illustrates that the idea of a competitive free market keeping prices down is a myth. The British government has disgusted me for years by the way it reneges its responsibility for our built environment, whilst lining the pockets of the rich.

I'm reading 'Affluenza' at the moment: evidently the Free Market isn't much good for one's mental health either.
'The Bottom Line' is probably somewhere way down in the pits of Hell.
