hitting the campaign trail is none other than the Kinkster.

Kinky Friedman is (apparently almost seriously) trying to become the next Governor of Texas.

Clinton likes his books (so do I), and the Bush Family like his music (such catchy songs as "I'm an asshole from El Paso").

Kinky is amusing, Jewish and was brought up in Texas.

Is he a suitable candidate ? What about drugs ? Kinky seems to have consumed most and in many varieties over a considerable period. Alcohol ? He used it to wash down the drugs.

Minorities ? He has offended virtually all in his songs and books.

Politically correct ? This is a man who smokes large cigars in lifts in New York office buildings.

Policies ? His only apparent response is "trust me, I'm Jewish. I'll hire good people".

Would he make a good Governor ? No. Would I vote for him if I were Texan ? Yes.

My wife and I went out yesterday and signed the petition to get him on the ballot.

I don't know why he wouldn't make a good governor. He seems like a bright person with a since of humor. Nobody could be worse than the current and last governor.

With all the partisan fighting going on in the texas govt. lately it might be better to get an independent in.

Molly Ivins for President. She can choose any VP she likes. . .!

In politics no bright candidate wins if you have money and have good backing from big folks then you will be governor or president. I guess we have example right in our front. But when these type of guys make to this level we get hurt and general people have no option. Work hard to feed our children. I hate politics that is why I never go to vote. It is so frustrating.

Kinky got 16% of the vote. Really not bad for an independent. A generally likeable fellow (Peter Hutchinson) in Minnesota only got 6% in the governor race. Votes do count. Jesse Ventura did get elected in Minnesota as an independent in 1998 when no one thought it would be possible. He was blessed with two unimpressive candidates to run against. But after 4 years Minnesotans were generally embarrassed about their choice. Jesse was smart enough not to push his luck and try again.

True Kinky got 16% of the vote, but if he had dropped out then Chris Bell likely would have won and we would not still have MR. No personality in office.
