Hi, not sure if I am in the right place to raise this issue ... I bought a brand new G5 iMac from John Lewis just 4 months ago. In the past week a fault has developed .... after 40 minutes on my mac, the system freezes up and I have to switch off until it cools down. It is not an intermittent fault but it happens everytime I switch on, so I have about 10 minutes left to write and post this message.

I use the mac for my freelance work and its my only computer. I have discovered from several mac forums that Apple provides very poor customer care. They will want to cart my mac off somewhere for days or weeks while they repair it. I was sold on Apple because of the reputation for reliability but it seems that if you have a fault on a new machine, then it can become a nightmare.

Any advice as to how I can get a brand new replacement for this faulty mac or just get my money back. John Lewis have told me to contact Apple direct.
Many thanks,
effie

check for dust build up some where around the processor or power supply... it might overheating b/c of that...

otherwise it sounds like you have a fan that might not be operating properly

Sometimes the problem is caused by an improperly seated card which looses conection when the machine gets hot. You can go in and make sure all of the connections are good.

Many thanks ... a friend has explained how to do Repair Permissions on my hard drive using the installation disc, so I have just done that ... and it repaired a couple of things .... and someone else has suggested that the mac will settle down and its nothing too serious ... I will keep tabs on it and post back to let you know ...

Thanks again,
Effie
