I would but know one will let me. 
Domestically we are a bit safer than pre 9/11 because of a better security. We have offset that gain somewhat by making more enemies abroad.
It would have made more since to spend money in the US just on the things that would enhance security (instead of the pork barrel spending that actually happened) and then conduct ourselves in a way as to promote good will internationally.
