I know it has been asked and answered before, but does anyone have advice on how to print a .plt file? I used to be able to do this with my old plotter and Microspot GraphPak, but now use an HP 800ps with postscript.
Thanks,

Microspot X-rip can create .plt files in pretty much the same manner that GraphicPak did.
You can upgrade to X-rip from Graphic Pak. _________________ John Cruet

Jeff, try using the old powerplot send plot utility to download the file to the plotter in classic. Remember to select the plotter in classic with the chooser. _________________ --

Thanks guys. Plt files are very infrequent, but come my way once in a while. I cannot find the old Microspot software disk at this point, and it is not worth buying a copy of Microspot X-rip for this. I was hoping for a simple solution to print a.plt file.
Sounds like the simple solution is to ask the sender to get a copy of Adobe Acrobat and send a .pdf file.
Thanks,

That works just fine IF the sender has a awy to print a .pdf file.
A client of mine who runs Windows and an HP 650C plotter doesn't have a clue as to how to print a .pdf file. If he did, I'd be in seventh heaven! I would NOT have to send him a .dwg file and hope the output even comes close to what it does on my system. _________________ John Cruet

Then he is a moron JC Have him download Acrobat reader (most likely already on his computer) and then print it. As a PC user I find that the 95% market share get over 100% of the idiots . |

You may think him a moron, but I talked to him at some length today.
He runs an HP 650C, and he can plot the PDF on his plotter but cannot format it to plot at 24 x 36.
I'm going to try to do this on my system through VPC, and see how it works.
Anyhow, I might be able to pass that up no matter what. The latest PowerCadd translator can assign colors to line weights, and his system is set up to read/write line weights in this manner. I'll work with that and see how it goes. _________________ John Cruet

Well you left that part out (or just found out). I used to have one of those(HP 650) at former job, it was a good plotter in it's day. I thought you meant he had no idea on how to open and print (seems like a few other did here too ). Does he have updated HP drivers? How about the latest version of Acrobat. They are on version 6 BTW. I would tell him to look at those 2 items 1st. He might have to make a custom sheet in the printer properties box. |
