From the L.A. Times:

Two years after the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the Pentagon has formally included in key strategic plans provisions for launching preemptive strikes against nations thought to pose a threat to the United States.

I can't be sure if this is the "good news about the bad news," or what:

"He cares passionately about the poor. . ." and, yes, there IS an Iraq tie-in, unfortunately.

Oh, yeah, the "good news" (if any)? That you know when there's been sufficient "blowback" following a White House decision: the Mopping-Up gets underway. . .

"You mean, just because he raped Iraq, and has no background applicable to this post, that he isn't a credible candidate -- "shoo-in," in fact -- for head of the World Bank?"

sadly it looks as if Kofi Annan is making the mistake of appeasement.

the one factor which unites Bush, Blair and the rest is that any organisation that they touch has to be dragged down to their level.

and those that refuse ? the little ones get trashed and the big ones will fight.

the next couple of months could become seriously alarming especially since Bush and Blair are setting up the IRA to take the blame for whatever-is-to-happen-in-Britain in the next couple of months.

In re the second anniversity war protest, the "notoriously liberal news media" seems to have significantly under-reported the protests, and/or seriously under-estimated the respective turn-outs at some of the many individual demonstrations:
